Danielle,Zoning is handled by the local municipality (city, township, or county). Check your municipality's website for a zoning or economic development department... they should be able to help you. -Zach
I have found that talking with someone in economic development for the village, city or county can help a broker or business owner get an idea of where the local governments want to see that type of business locate. Zoning and planning are often the main go to department for the permitted uses but having economic development coordinators or presidents of the economic partnerships championing the idea can help move the process along.
The zoning ordinance is public record: anyone may get a copy by request. Most communities provide zoning maps showing not only what the zoning ordinance is, but the overall zoning plan. Many communities also provide this information online and you can check your city's homepage to see if the zoning ordinance and zoning map are on the city's web site.
