These definitions vary by locality. You have to look at the local town or village code, which can often be found online. Usually there is a section devoted to Zoning. Absent that, you need to visit the local building or planning department for the definitions.

Contact the local city and/or county zoning department, or look up their website and search for the zoning maps for your region or geographic area(s) that you're looking for information about. Not all areas use the same letter designations for zoning.

Zoning ordinances and regulations are laws setting limits on how you can use your property. Cities, counties, townships and other local governments use zoning laws to guide development and shape the community, usually under an overall zoning plan.
