Here is what I would suggest. Take a commercial client that you find and might refer to a commercial practitioner and find someone willing to work the deal with you and show you the ropes in exchange for the referral. No, you won't make any money on the deal. But the knowledge you will gain will be worth more in the long term. You will soon either decide that you enjoy the commercial side of things or that you rather be on a different end of the business. Either way, everyone gets something for their time.
Maybe the next referral you get a cut on as your ability increases.
