I received an offer from a Far East RE consultant to JV with his investor. How do I check this out?

Steve -- These are usually bogus offers because you may have been picked at random from your internet presence. Think about what due diligence items you, your title/escrow company, your banker, and your attorney would require in order for you to JV with someone. Ask the correspondent for those items. You will probably not hear from them again.

In 37 years in the commercial real estate business, I've never seen a dime of "foreign money" materialize, unless they made "in person" trips, and then only once. If you want to go one step further, just make sure not one dime ever goes from you to them, only from them to you. Don't spend much time on this.
